Why do comments pages take so darn long to update?

Been seeing this a lot lately and I'm pretty sure it isn't just Blogger. Be it my blog or others, from the main page it can say that there are zero comments, but when I bring up the page, there might be two or three even! I didn't catch on until I recently replied to comments on my own blog and noticed the number had not changed an hour later. Sometimes refreashing fixes it, but mostly it dosn't. A few hours later all will be well most of the time. Still it's annoying having to check each comment board to make sure there really are no new messages.

There's something terribly meta about posting a comment on a post about comments. Anyhow, I have Wordpress installed on my personal webspace for the purposes of blogging and it updates lickety-split (my experience has been that Moveable Type also performs remarkably well [better?]). Where I have noticed lag, however, are feed aggregators, either web-based (like C'ville Blogs) or 3rd party clients (like Shrook). ::shrugs:: Good luck with it!

Thanks Mandy.

I'm terrible with change, but strongly suspect Wordpress will become the home of this blog somewhere down the road.

I love that now that I've complained about it, I don't seem to find the problem. It's like: THERE'S A MONSTER IN THAT ROOM!!! So the monster bolts and everyone's left to think I'm all boy cried wolf. Yawn... I sleep now.

Blogger is pretty bad at that. I suspect (and this isn't my area of expertise) that the blog pages get cached. So that when you re-open your blog, your looking at the version of it that was saved on your computer hours (days?) earlier. That's why the refresh helps. You may be able to work around it by specifying in your browser options to always check for updated pages (or some option along those lines).
